Being already a somewhat older guy I had the chance to see the dance-scene evolve from the start. If it wasn’t for grunge rock coming up in the beginning of the 90’s I might be interested in this music style. But man, that Billy Corgan and Kurt Cobain could lay down some beautiful tracks and I couldn’t resist. The hell with dance music…

But a good friend of mine mentioned the arrival of Hed Kandi to Curacao. I asked him: who? Which resulted in a rant about how stupid I was that I never heard of it. Until that point the only ‘Head Candy’ I heard of involved a certain male attribute and some smelly adhesive on the ‘head’, you do the math…

After some digging around I had a somewhat clearer view of what Hed Kandi is all about. In short, Hed Kandi is a music brand, which consists of a record label but also a group of DJ’s and artist who perform on prime locations all over the world. They appear really popular and check this out: they now have a prime location on Curacao, at Bermuda discotheque!

So as a non-believer of the dance-scene I still decided to go and have a look.
Basically, I enjoy fine musicians. I still believe DJ’s are entertainers and not musicians (some of them are). But Hed Kandi is different as they throw some kick ass musicians and entertainment in the mix. Now we’re talking!
Apart from that, I also enjoy quality. And that’s what Bermuda brings to the table. They have a sound- and light system unprecedented on Curacao so I went for the experience. Of course I also really enjoy the colonial style setting in which it all takes place. So even if I don’t care much about the music style, I still enjoy a world-class great night out, which is rare on Curacao because let’s face it, it is still an island.

So what did I get? Bermuda got transformed into the Hed Kandi style with cool designed banners, video projection, dancers, crazy good musicians and DJ’s who know what they are doing. The music was more melodic and you have something to look at. The big square at Bermuda was packed with beautiful people having a great time.

Hed Kandi is an experience filled with excitement, a real night out, even if you are a metal head, a bachata lover or a jazz freak. Just try it as a special night out like going to dinner at a restaurant, a concert or to the movies. And for all the dance lovers out there: I am really jealous because you have the best Dance music in the world coming to Curacao every month!
