Am I drinking water and exercising more like I was supposed to?

David Dovale on the beach Curacao
The wife wants me to drink more water and to exercise more often. I’ve written about this a while ago and after a friend asked me about that yesterday, I thought that it would be a good time to write a little follow up.

I have to actually start by saying that the wife kept her part of the deal as she has started doing some “spinning”. For those of you that are not familiar with spinning, it consists of riding a stationary bike to the beat of snazzy, up tempo music. It’s supposedly really hard the first time, but then you start to enjoy it more and more every time you go.

Either way, now that the wife is spinning, I do find myself dealing with a little bit of attitude at home…

Wife: “Since I spin now, I’m pretty sure that I can run a marathon without breaking a sweat.”
Dave: “Whatever. I bet that I would be a spinning master if I tried.”
Wife: “Why don’t you join me next time then?”
Dave: “I don’t want to embarrass the instructor because she probably won’t be able to keep up with my world class speed”.
Wife: “You get tired when you answer the phone.”
Dave: “THAT’S BECAUSE I GET A LOT OF PHONE CALLS!”

I may not be doing trendy things like spinning, but I am drinking my water and I’m getting my exercise by playing some soccer during my lunch break. A colleague and I kick the ball around for about 20 minutes during our lunch break and judging by the gross amounts that I sweat, I’m pretty sure that I get an intense work out. Seriously, I sweat so much that the other colleagues need to mop when we are done.

By the way, if you are wondering about my soccer skills, the following scenario should explain everything. This is what happened last Wednesday…

Colleague: “Go stand in goal and I’ll take some shots.”
Dave: “I don’t think you’ll be able to score with me in goal. I’m a world class goalke….
* ball flies past my head into the goal as I barely move a muscle *
Dave: “That’s not fair. I wasn’t ready!”
* ball flies past my head again *
Dave: “DAMNIT. YOU’RE STANDING TOO CLOSE!”

Eh, the point is that I’m doing my best. I’m getting a good 20 to 30 minutes of intense soccer action in a day, I’m drinking my water and I’m planning on playing a one to two soccer games a week in an effort to get my endurance back where it used to be. The plan is also to regularly walk/jog/swim along with that and to climb the Christoffelberg in a show of brutal man power. I’ve even made a deal with Sebastiaan that we’d do the Christoffelberg climb together and that we’d showcase my triumph (or utter failure) here on Meet Curacao.

Wife: “You seem to really be avoiding that Christoffelberg climb though”.
Dave: “That’s because I need special mountain climbing sneakers and those are hard to find!”
Wife: “……Sigh….”
Dave: * falls asleep on couch * * has nightmare * *holds on to blankie *
