Cool jobs, customer satisfaction and the good restaurants on Curacao

Curacao information mailbag
The first editions of the Meet Curacao Mailbag were pretty awesome, so of course we decided to bring it back for another round. Again, these are questions from readers who want to tap into my amazing amount of knowledge. I’m talking about the type of knowledge that would put Stephen Hawking to shame.

Wife: “I’m ashamed of the fact that you don’t shave regularly.”
Dave: “Shaving is for weaklings. This rugged facial hair shows that I live off of nothing but Whiskey and crocodile meat.”
Wife: “You still sleep with your baby blankie.”
Dave: “LEAVE MR. SNUGGLES OUT OF THIS!”

Either way, on to the questions….

Cool jobs
What is your dream job?
- Sam

I like this question but the problem is that it’s always changing. When I was a wee lad, I wanted to be an architect. When I hit my early teens, I wanted to be a professional athlete (soccer, baseball). In my late teens, depending on the day of the week, I either wanted to be a homeless bum or the lead guitarist in kick-ass metal band.

Right now, my dream job would be as a TV blogger. I used to make a living by writing about poker and gambling and I have been blogging about sports for years, but making a living as a TV blogger would top both. Think about it. I would spend my days writing about Mad Men and making fun of Glenn Beck AND count my DirecTv bill as a “work expense”??? FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, SIGN ME UP NOW!

UTS hatred
I have just a question really. Is it only UTS that you have a grudge against? Or do mistakes from other companies not get written on your site?
- EP

David UTS CuracaoValid question. Let me start with UTS. People always ask me if I hate them or if I hold a grudge against them and I won’t lie. There are days that I hate that company with everything I have. The connection will drop and I have to fight the urge to call customer service and just randomly yell expletives at whoever picked up my call. I’ll just stand there, bleed from my eyes and contemplate lighting myself on fire. Then the connection comes back and I’m as happy as Tiger Woods’ wife after she takes all his money.

Wife: “Why are you giggling like a school girl?”
Dave: “Because the Internet is working again and I can continue looking at ponies that wear wigs!”

But yes, there are days that I really just hate the service that they give and the prices that we have to pay. As for the second part of your question. Mistakes from other companies get written as well, just check the DirecTv and TDS pages on Curacao Connected and you’ll see plenty of negative comments from users. Curacao Connected is a platform that allows people to complain about the bad service that they get, especially from the Internet/TV/Phone companies. Plenty of people have e-mailed in the past and have complained about Scarlet, MIO, Digicel and various other places, but UTS just knows how to piss off people. They’ve gotten a lot of complaints lately and they’re actually not being singled out.

The Interwebs
You seem to be online a lot. What are some of your favorite websites? In general and also local sites….
- Tim D.

These are some of my favorites at the moment: Awkward Family Photos, Cyanide and Happiness, Penny Arcade, XKCD, Fail Blog, Comixed, LATFH, Picture is Unrelated, Autocomplete Me, Hot Chicks With Douchebags, Lifehacker, Gizmodo, Engadget, The Big Lead, KSK, Yahoo! Sports, Espn.com, Si.com.

As for the local sites: I’m not going to plug any of the 45694060 sites I’m affiliated with, but the local site that I visit the most is DolfijnFm.com and that’s purely for work related reasons.

Decisions, decisions
TDS or DirecTv?
- Johnathan

Uts and TDS Curacao
I used to have TDS, now I have DirecTV and at the moment, I have to side with DirecTV. Many people have complained about them on my site, but I’ve been a customer since October of last year and everything has been great so far. Actually, I don’t even know how TDS still has customers. Getting a decent reception on your TDS box happens as frequent as getting good customer service from UTS.

Restaurant hopping
Have there been any changes to your Top 10 Restaurant list?
- C.J.

I wrote that article about two months ago and sadly, I haven’t been to any new restaurants since. During the past two months we’ve just visited the regular places and the list therefore remains unchanged.

Wife: “You can’t handle change.”
Dave: “ YOU WANT THE TRUTH? YOU CAN’T HANDLE THE TRUTH!”
