David’s top 10 Curacao restaurants – the winner

In part one of his top 10 Curacao restaurants David introduced the first 5:
# 10 De Snackbar
# 9 De Tropen
# 8 Sambal
# 7 Sai Kung
# 6 O Mundo
Now the top 10 continues! Want to know who’s at number one? Let’s find out!
5 Brakkeput Mei Mei (Landhuis Brakkeput Mei Mei)
One of my all-time favorites and a place that you can’t go wrong with. Getting there used to be a bit of a hassle as it felt like you were driving on the craters of the moon, but luckily, that road has been fixed a little.
Some of the best meals I’ve had have been at Brakkeput Mei Mei. The salad bar is a plus, the service is always good and while the menu hasn’t changed much, the chefs seem to come through every time. It gets bonus points from me because it’s also very close to home.
Some of what they offer: Salad bar, ribs, steak, chicken, baked potatoes, french fries, fish
4 De Gouverneur (Otrabanda Waterfront)
Two things make me like De Gouverneur very much. The insanely good food and the view of the harbor and Punda. There’s nothing nicer than having dinner and looking at the Punda skyline with all of the lights. It’s moments like that that I tend to get oddly patriotic and I start picking fights with random strangers.
Wife: I wish you’d start eating some vegetables
Dave: I only eat thick, juicy, meat! I’m a man who discovered the wheel and built the Eiffel Tower out of metal and brawn. That’s what kind of man I am!
De Gouverneur is another great place to sit and talk, discuss business or just to have some great food. The menu is pretty varied but you need to call and make reservations because it tends to fill up pretty quickly.
Some of what they offer: Steak, fish, mashed potatoes, chicken, wraps, burgers, salads, pasta

3 Grill King (Boogjes Punda)
I really could place this one at the number one position but the two remaining restaurants are just that good. Grill King has my favorite menu from any restaurant on the island and the location is unique as well. The sound of the water as it crashes below you is a thing you have to experience and there are tons of bonus points when the sun is setting. There are always people performing in the Boogjes so you get to enjoy some nice music as well….
When we can’t figure out where we want to go for dinner, Grill King is my default answer.
Some of what they offer: Steak, french fries, chicken, skewers, fish, ribs
2 Boat House (Brakkeput Ariba)
One of the pricier restaurants on the island, but definitely one of the best. The perfect place to get dressed up and have a fancy dinner. The view of Spaanse Water is extremely sweet and the service is top notch as well.
The menu has a nice variety and everything is served very stylish and with class. If you are thinking of having dinner here, just make sure that you make reservations and that you dress appropriately. Oh, and be prepared to pay a little bit more than you are used to…
Wife: Our last visit to the Boat House was probably the best restaurant experience I ever had. The scenery was great. The food was awesome and I had a really nice time.
Dave: That’s because I was wearing really cool pants!
Wife. Sigh….
Some of what they offer: Soups, salads, seafood, steaks, buffet, children’s menu, vegetarian
1 El Gaucho (Rooi Santu)
Since I love steak, it should come as no surprise that I rank El Gaucho as my favorite restaurant in Curacao. They really do have the biggest and best steaks on the island and a sweet salad bar to go along with it.
The menu is very solid, offering skewers, chicken, steaks, grill, seafood and more. You can always count on a nice atmosphere and the prices are very decent if you ask me. They even offer free shuttle bus service from major hotels and resorts on the island. In my opinion, if you are looking for a great dinner on a Friday night, there’s no better place than El Gaucho. Absolutely perfect every time I’ve been there.
Others receiving votes: Chindy’s, Tony Roma’s, Scampys, Larry’s, Kleine Wereld, Ho Wah, Rose Garden, Ribs Factory, Spaghetti Factory, De Heeren, La Granja

Some very good choices, but it really shows that you’re a meat lover
Gaucho’s is definitely the best place for steak. Although the Lomito at El Canario (Caracasbaaiweg, across the street from Vreugdenhil) is also extremely succulent and 1/3rd the price…
Some of my personal favorites (if I have enough money in the pocket): Sjalotte, Astrolab, Moon, Papagayo Restaurant, Fish Night at Mambo and of course Bistro Le Clochard. I haven’t been to Villa Elisabeth yet, but I hear it’s on par with Bistro.
And when my budget is more normal (or if I’m not trying to impress an unusually pretty lady): El Canario, Mundo Bizarro, Craving Sushi, Seaside Terrace, De Tropen or my own Sushi at home
For the people who have a smaller budget and enjoy the “Curacao way of life” try Octopus in Boca Sami. Have dinner on a platform over the sea, enjoy the best sunset on Curacao, the great atmosphere and nice food. It’s a very simple place, nothing fancy and the food is good. Thát’s what I like about Curacao.
And hey, there are so many good restaurants on Curacao, that is one of the great things of our island. You must have forgotten Tempo Doeloe Dave
, great place too.
I didn’t forget about Tempo Doeloe. Definitely not.
I went to Moon once and had some back luck. Seaside Terrace was great, but I want to go a few more times. Same with Mundo Bizarro, Canario and Sjalotte.
For me, the closer to home (Caracasbaai/Bottelier/Jan Thiel/Jan Sofat/Brakkeput)….the better. Beach views are also a plus and it has to have good meat.
Surf & Turf and Wederfoort at Boca Sami.. Delicious food, local waiters, local atmosphere, always a little vacation!
I forgot my friend Juni. Captain Goodlife at St Cruz… Obersi (his last name) fries are the best fries on the Island!!!!
I absolutely love grill king.. the view is excellent, the menu is perfect, and i like when the servers feed the eels. i normally go for lunch.
I went to La Pergola on Friday Night. Let’s just say that they were very impressive yet again. Probably the best meat I have had outside of El Gaucho…
Does anyone know a good lomito recipe? I can’t find one anywhere online and I miss it so much being back in the States.
@ David Can you put this in the mailbag with some help of your secret weapon Miss D?
I have asked the misses and it has been added to the mailbag….
